In this October, I have to take the Specialized High School Admission Test, or SHSAT. That test is very hard as far as I know, I did a lot of practices on that test this past year. First it was very confused, I almost got everything wrong. But as the time goes by, it seems to be much easier than before (but not THAT easy, I still got like 1/4 of the questions wrong, though). There were 9 specialized high school in New York City, and 8 of them have to take the test in order to get in. And the other one is a musical high school, which my piano teach convince me almost everyday to go to the audition.
My mom is just against it, she said I have to go in at least get into Brooklyn Technical High School, or Staten Island Technical High School. I want to get in them too, because I love math and science so much. I'm also interested in High School of American Studies at Lehman College, I'm also good at history of America. There were also two top high school which is very very hard to get in. They are Stuyvesant High School and Hunter High School. I'm pretty sure that I won't get in Hunter because I'm not verygood at writing (I'm only a ESL student), and the most important part of that test is Writing. But I think I may get in Stuyvesand because all of its test are mutiple choice questions, so even if I don't know some questions, I could guess, at least I have a 1/5 of chance to get it correct.
Anyway, this summer I chose EMS summer school to help me to improve my skills of taking the test. I have improve a lot, but the Scrambled Paragraph part is still my biggest problems. Even my reading comprehension is better than my scrambled paragraph. For the scrambled paragraph, you don't have the mutiple choice, so it's very hard. I know all the tips to do those kind of problems, but I still can't get all of them right (well sometimes I can't get all of them right but it's like only 5%).
I do wish I would pass this test, so my mom won't yell at me and said how important it's to get in a good high school. Really, it's pretty annoying, but if I think backwards, then she's right. A good high school may be my destiny of my life.
